Moody, laid back, dreamy, and somewhat jazzy, "Grey Matter" is an effective chillout track.
This track is some quality epic, cinematic orchestral stuff. Great attention to percussion, a strong string melody, harps, and a smattering of 'electronic' effects and processing.
Bed of Knives (great title!) sounds like it belongs in one of the Prince of Persia games. Intricate breakbeats power a chugging guitar riff with a melody played by piano and ethnic instruments. Intense and impressive stuff.
This track has a slow, chunky beat, nice piano and string melodies, and a deep bass. It's nice. Full version can be found on Hero of the Grey Area.
Thumping beats, crunchy breaks, angry synths, epic strings, deep bass. Yum yum. Hope you enjoy this track off of my upcoming album.
Audix hits us with an epic trance rendition of classic Star Wars themes. He includes the main theme, the Imperial Death March, and Battle of the Heroes.
Audix brings together several Christmas themes in one of his signature epic trance tracks. Synths, piano, strings, beats, its all good.
This one sounds like a leftover from Hero of the Grey Area - big crunchy beat, atmospheric pads, orchestral and piano melodies. I'll likely not be returning to this style for a bit. Time to try new things, ya?
This is a pretty kickass trance remix by Hollidayrain of Coactive. We entered it in the August Ourstage.com competition.
This track comes from Siamey's upcoming album, "Going Away" which is a concept album where each track is written with certain video game scenes in mind. This song reminds me of overworld map music in an RPG, but Siamey has given it a very interesting twist with a synth bassline and a crunchy beat.
Destructo's rendition of SGX's "i.transmit.this" planned to be included with i.transmit.this EP along with the other remixes done by other artists, but he wasn't able to finish in time. Here it is, better late than never, for free download.
The track begins with an atmospheric piano section then evolves into a light jazzy motif with some improv electric guitar. Tasty!
Siamey gives us this quirky little upbeat track from his album, "Going Away." Blending light e-piano grooves with frenetic drum and bass beats, it is a brief but entertaining shot of audio.
From Siamey's album, Going Away. Dark, shifty, mysterious groove with a phat, Rob Dougan-esque beat. Get sneakin'!
This is my remix of that iconic song from the movie "Requiem for a Dream." You've probably heard it in some movie trailers too, such as the Lord of the Rings Two Towers trailer.
This mix is part drum and bass and part big beat, with orchestral elements similar to the original, and a nasty, very prominent bass. Enjoy!
Pop-rock artist Wil Deynes contacted our Audix to put together a remix of his Ourstage-topping track, "Super Wonderful" and this is what Audix created. The remix is a catchy, bouncy, happy, and light electronica/pop concoction that will either lift your spirits or give you a cavity. It's not the normal Protagonist type release, but it is quality stuff and nice for a change.
If you've been following Siamey since before Protagonist you may have heard this yummy trance brew constructed with both contemporary trance sounds and a dash of chiptune synth. If so, check it out again. If not, check it out for the first time!
Dark, percussive, and moody, Hy Bound brings us some good movie trailer fodder tunage.
To be available on Zircon's upcoming EP, "Mass Media Constant", here is Fiberoptics! Frantic dnb breaks, distorted growling bass, and syncopated synths come together in a sparkling electronic composite.
Malcos joins us with a track from his upcoming album. Lightspeed is a sexy RnB electronica track with butter-smooth vocals from Malcos himself. We haven't had anything that sounds like this on Protagonist yet and I'm looking forward to more.
This is the second track we are releasing from Audix's contribution to the Goldeneye Source project. This is a dancy take on the classic Bond theme with a stylish synth solo section I'm really digging.
Our first guest release on Protagonist Records! I think you guys will enjoy this slick epic breaks style track that reminds me of some of Zircon's work. Coming in with some nice atmosphere and delayed acoustic guitars, Imago Deo then builds to intense levels with a slightly repetitive but effective melody and churning bassline.
Flexstyle recently released his latest album, "Elements of Creation" for free download. You can currently grab it at this link.
Your slick funk delivery is here. Keyboard riffs, jazzy flute, and plucked and bass string instruments, and a heavy beat come together in Malcos' "Who Knows" from the instrumental side of his new album, Day Dreams.
Sweet beats over a syncopated synth bed and catchy vocals!
Great breaks, gated pads, string melodies, and chopped acoustic guitars bring us a very BT-esque track. This is from Zircon's original soundtrack to the upcoming XBLA Community Game, "Fittest."
Epic melodic trance with a piano lead and growling, pumping bassline. This song, or a version of it will be included in the Xbox Live Arcade Indie Game I am working on with a small team. The illustration in the tag is from our artist, Alayna Lemmer.
Pollicer joins Protagonist with this uplifting epic trance track. It's got a nice ebb and flow, with epic buildups and breakdowns. Look for another Pollicer track next week, then the release of his album, "Songs for Those Who Yearn."
Electro-pop with female vocals, Flickerfall joins Protagonist with their catchy, "Metro Underground" off their upcoming EP release, "Delayed Reaction." Stay tuned for more details on the album!
PhiJayy brings us a pretty unique piece of melodic and upbeat breakbeat goodness. Check them out at phijayy.com.
Malcos comin' back at ya with a new track and a new album on the way. More Than Just One Night is a DnB-leaning piece with some of his vocals. It's got the trademark Malcos smooth you're familiar with from his album Daydreams with a big beat and synths. Grab it!
My buddy Platonist from over at other netlabel, Reunion, brings us a catchy, intricate, and fun jam in his tracker/somewhat chippy style trappings.
A second free track from Malcos' album Ascension, The Other Side is another venture into great drum n bass beats and RnB style vocals. Acoustic guitar chords and plucked strings throughout keep the track relatively light on the synth and complement the vocal melodies.
De-tuned melancholy piano, grit atmospherics, crunched beats, and a raw bass synth come together for a tasty ambient industrial groove. This is part of wauterboi's free four-song EP of tracks from his recent full album release, Null. Download the Conversations With Myself EP HERE.
jayyAustin, half of the phijayy duo that has submitted before, brings us a slick progressive house track. Jay takes his sweet time developing the track, but it never is boring and really takes you places. Great song! Enjoy your holidays!
Track three of John Torkington's latest album, "No Headphones Required", "The Silence" showcases vocalist Katie Hardy along with the musical stylings of John Torkington in a lush, clean sound-scape. This is a great track to chill out to; the leisurely progression ebbs and flows naturally and envelops you.
HR, skilled electronic music producer/huge Colorado Rockies fan (seriously, all of his pages have almost more Rockies content than content relating to his music!) brings us a high-energy melodic trance track from his album, Parka. Trance standby arpeggios, syncopated saw synths, epic buildups, and dreamy piano leads come together for a solid trance experience. Check out HR on Soundclick and grab Parka for free.
The synthy, mallet line featured in this ambient/industrial piece strongly reminds me of the theme that plays in the PS2 game ICO when you die. That was quite a helpful association, wasn't it? This is a dark, yet beautiful, somewhat minimal piece of music. Check out more Kewk on his myspace.
Woah! We haven't had anything like this on Protagonist before, and it is awesome. Crazy aggressive electro chopped up breaks, defective synths, wild vocals (avoid this if you don't like colorful language). This is the first track off of Bankai's freeTeen Slut Pimp Strut EP. It looks like all his music is free. How noble! Check him out. I am!
The first track off of his new A Sense of Urgency 2009 album, Chain Reaction comes at ya with a groovin', plodding, almost swingin' standout beat, dirty, lofi bass, and syncopated synths for a pretty killer album-starter. Stream his album, or name your price to download it HERE.
Navi hits us with some slick hiphop and rapping. Great beat, buzzing bass synth, slick scratching. Love it. Monsoon Season is off of Navi's recently released album, Grayscale which is downloadable for free. The rest is similarly awesome.
Developing slowly from a pretty minimal, dry, piece of electronica, to a full trancy/club track with a lofi, chiptune-esque slant, it takes a while to get going, but getting there is great. Check it out.
Mnemosyne hits us with a Nu-Style Gabba track. Sweet kick modulations, awesome melodies, and some chopped up vocals. Warning: Explicit Lyrics. While this isn't a style I care for myself, let me know wether you want more like this on Protagonist. Put a comment here, or hit me on twitter: @sgxmusic.
Hollidayrain is giving us a lot of really well produced trancy/club stuff. Let's start off our weekend with another! This progressive house track launches with a long dj intro but soon gets into a fun groove with some very upbeat synths and melodies that sound straight out of a 16-bit Sonic the Hedgehog game. Great stuff.
Some epic breaks style comin' at ya. Unctuous spends five or so minutes rocking some speedy breaks, and unloads a pretty badass breakdown section and climax to finish it off.
Probably not the type of stuff you'll hear here a lot on Protagonist, but I thought it was interesting. Freeform jazz/ambient electronica recorded live. Quick, mellow groove. This track is from their live album 404 Live at River Road available at cdbaby.com
Hope everyone is having a chill Friday. If not, take a listen to this smooth ambient IDM track from Vitz. Etherial pads, chime-esque synth melodies, and a cool slow breakbeat percussion element come together for a really dreamy, groovy piece.
DJ SBX hits us with a slick progressive trance track featuring some chippy synths, syncopated saw bass, piano melodies, and the traditional trance DJ long intro and outros. Happy Monday.
Stressful week so far? Chill out and be transported with this atmospheric piece from 12 Followers/Meteo Xavier. It feels like a great track for the soundtrack to a scifi movie or game where you are visiting an undiscovered planet. Great pads, delayed synths, and a subtle constant kick beat keeps things feeling in motion.
Awesome! Pollicer has given us a new, awesome breakbeat epic trance anthem track with wonderful female vocals. Definitely a great, uplifting track. Say goodbye to this week and hello to the weekend!
There's more like this on Pollicer's Protagonist-released album Songs for Those Who Yearn available for $7.99. Check out the streaming previews!
Glitchy, playful, jazzy, synthy, fun stuff from London-based Bitbasic. Track is from Bitbasic's forthcoming album, 'Pixel Mixel'.
Some of wauterboi's work is beginning to remind me a bit of NIN. This track has massively overdriven rock drums, electric guitar, screeching synths, buzzing bassline, and a very NIN-like delayed ambient piano bed. If you dig this track, check out wauterboi's Null EP here on Protagonist.
Binster always comes at'cha with some of the sickest and catchiest electro breaks tunes. This track is as usual a bit funky, a bit cheeky with some old-school synth sounds, and fun with some goofy RoboCop audio clips. Grab it, enjoy your Monday.
Great Progressive Trance from Hollidayrain today. He keeps giving us quality stuff! Here's hoping for more in the future. This is one of my favorites so far.
Quick little melodic and atmospheric DnB track here to finish up your Friday. Adore has an album available - Check out Distorted Minds at bandcamp.
Killer chill ambient/trip hop type stuff from Flexstyle off of his album, Elements of Creation. An interesting portamento saw synth melody comes in a couple minutes into the track. Great smooth beats and pads.
Really cool electro type jam with vocals by 835. Check out his album, I'm a Genius.
This wonderful, chill, ambient groove comes to us from AFinalDate. Featuring layers of reverberated piano and other acoustic instruments, plus a solid, thick, hiphop beat and bass, the track is a smooth treat.
Woah! Ready for some badass for your Wednesday? This track is dirty, filthy, and rough in a great way. Check out this yummy electro from Bankai
HR once again with some awesome stuff. This time an electro house track featuring some rap vocals by Half Klass. Loving it!
Killer Tech House from Hy Bound! Heavy beat and bass, semi-lofi, oldschoolish synth fun! Start your weekend right. Catch ya monday! Also: great name! Grumbletrouser? Hah!
Really interesting ambient soundscape with melodic acoustic guitar processed through some dope granular effects, much like a lot of BT's sound in This Binary Universe. Good stuff. Check out jeremywentworth on Soundcloud for more.
Vitz coming at us again, this time with some Dnb/electro tunage. Quality work.
jayy brings us this big, thundering, buildup of a track featuring heavy beats and distorted electric guitar. Sounds like movie soundtrack material.
Mnemosyne is back with a fun, energetic UK Hardcore track featuring some dreamy piano melodies, and choppy female vocals.
Case of the Mondays? Or at least do you have one now that I said "case of the Mondays"? Either way, check out this fun synth-pop track from Color Theory off of his upcoming album due on August 4th.
We're basically getting Hollidayrain tunes bi-weekly here since he produces so much (great) stuff so quickly. Another straight-up great trance track here. Check it out.
This is a dancy/trancy remix of main themes from Pirates of the Caribbean. It used to be on Sole Signal's One Day Millennium album but had to be removed due to changing licensing issues. Here it is for free!
Check out Sole Signal's One Day Millennium available via Protagonist for $7.99!
This is not a new Binster track by a long stretch, but it is a favorite of mine. LOVE IT! It is a remix of music from the PS2 game ICO. Breakbeats combine with synths, ethnic instruments, and exciting builds and progression for one of the coolest things I've heard out of the OCRemix scene. I believe this version is different/updated from the OCRemix version as well, so BONUS!
12 Followers/Meteo Xavier brings us another laid back, atmospheric track containing some interesting synth melody work. It sounds like Playstation-era Japanese RPG music with a synthy twist. Interesting work here.
Stick with it through the long intro and you'll find a pretty evil sounding bass with some no-nonsense drums. Vitz hits us with a textured and heavy track. Really digging these sounds. It sounds like it could be at home in one of the The Matrix soundtracks.
Solid, energetic trancy/dancy stuff here, full of saw synth melodies, and a wailing electric guitar solo near the end of the song. Check out more Stargame music.
Interestingly experimental, crunchily industrial, uniquely dark using a bluesy electric guitar. Great sounds from Hy Bound.
Mnemosyne comin' at us with a energetic and engaging remix of one of my favorite BT originals from the album Emotional Technology. I haven't heard many BT remixes in this style, but it works.
Straight-up good trance again from Hollidayrain. Have a good week!
Heavy, slighly lofi, sidechained big synths - this sounds like an evil ancient robot's boot sequence. Now it will smash you with beats. Watch out.
Hardcore with NES chiptune synths plus some good old big saws. Upbeat, fun, happy Friday. Check out more /DJS\.
Some heavy, dirty electro house coming our way via Belmont. This is a good groove. The only thing it is lacking is a head-bobbin' puppet video.
Really interesting, techy, dark stuff with slick beats here. Cryptovariable himself describes it as, "Flowing, warped hip-hop beats and synths portraying the 'random walk with drift' stochastic process that life often seems to be." Sounds accurate!
Comin' at ya all the way from Budapest, is this new wavey, chill, atmospheric groove by Tangram. It's part of his Vermillion EP available at a pay what you want price. Check it out.
Stargame brings us a pretty interesting Psychedelic Trance arrangment/remix of get this - a 1600's madrical called "April is in My Mistress' Face" by Thomas Morely. Brass fanfares, choirs, sawtooth arpeggios, and four-on-the-floor beats all together. You got your madrigal in my trance! Stargame's got some more info on the track here if you're interested.
Ok, hope you were in the mood for something saccharine today. Flickerfall gives us this slightly retro-sounding j-pop style remix off of the Donkey Kong Country 2 OCRemix Album project. The vocals are in Mandarin!
Check out Flickerfall's Delayed Reaction EP right here on Protagonist!
Channeling some Deadmau5, HR gives us "NeuHau5". Heavy 4x4 beats, dirty synths, and orchestral stabs; enjoy this electrohouse jam.
Ok, remix time! Syron offers up a very solid melodic drum and bass remix of BT's classic trance epic "Godspeed."
Vitz's work is consistently good stuff with delicate ambience, moody melodies, and solid synths. This track is not an exception.
We've got a chill hiphop groove here from Sonic Skillz off of his just-released EP Sonic Adventure that you should check out.
This is an awesome progressive breaks track from Hollidayrain. I'm totally grooving to this. Great beats, slightly jazzy synths, deep basslines. Good stuff.
Part chiptune, part buttrock, part Pendulum, AFinalDate hits us with a pretty killer track.
Combo of hardcore and drum n bass, /DJS\ rocks our faces with Shift. Nice synth lead, bro!
We've got a new wauterboi album coming for you next Wednesday the 16th. The album, titled, "if then" features 15 tracks and can be yours for $4.99 or more if you'd like to pay more and support indie electronica. Also, "if then" will debut along with the new, more awesome Protagonist Records store. Are you psyched?
About this song - it's a great, atmospheric, somewhat dark tune with music-box sounding synths and distortions. Enjoy with your Friday. One more free track from this album will be made available on Wednesday.
Special deal until next Wednesday! To celebrate wauterboi's new if then album, we're going to temporarily bump down his previous album null to $2.99. It's a steal! Load up on wauterboi this week. Stay hydrated in the summer!
The last free track from wauterboi's new album if then. Slow groove, big distorted synth, moody melody, some lofi synths, and a bit of NIN style. It's good stuff. Dig it? Check out the rest of the album! Just $4.99.
Epic, energetic, melodic, slightly Juno Reactor-esque. Quality trance jam from Stargame. Have a killer weekend! Check out the new Protagonist Webstore and wauterboi album if you haven't yet!
David L. Puga a dude featured on my i.transmist.this EP gives us this somewhat Prodigy-esque electronica track with heavy distorted synth lead, big drums, and a cool title.
Self described as a "crazy indian sounding hard progressive trance track!", Hollidayrain brings us yet another hum-dinger (yeah!).
I've been a bit lax on 3X/week updates recently, partly because of time constraints building the new webstore and finishing my new SGX album, but also because submissions have been slow. If you know any killer indie electronic artists that might want a bit more plays, send em my way. I mean HR, is great and all, but who wants to hear him every week? I mean, bleeeeh! (Those was jokes!)
Slick electro track from velice featuring lots of Justice-like pad sidechain womp-womp-womp!
Get psyched for the weekend with this humongous track from Bankai. Buzzing, distorted bass synths, big beats, huge builds, lots of payoff. Great track.
Huge, heavy, dirty, nasty stuff coming from DiCKNaStY! (is that a surprise?). Really slick build partway through does not disappoint. You're pumped for the rest of the week now, right?
Solid, epic sounding UK Hardcore remix with up-pitched female vocals coming from DJ SymBiotiX.
Groovy electro here for your Friday. Belmont hits us with a good track. I'm cursed: whenever I hear this sort of electro beat and bass synth I think of cigar-smoking puppets.
Spooky, ambient, industrial groove from Cryptovariable that constantly evolves and changes itself. Interesting listen.
HR throws some DnB stuff at us. Sounds like Pendulum with BIG kicks and snares, and similar Pendulum-style melodies. Some progressive trance-ish stuff slips in as well.
Stargame brings us a solid epic trancy type tune with his own vocals and electric guitar from a friend.
Here's some fun indie/disco/electronica stuff for you this fine Monday afternoon. Cool stuff from Super Mirage.
Not sure what genre to describe this as. Interesting, chill remix with male vocals from 835 x.
Chill, melodic, laid back, beautiful. Flexstyle really delivers a sweet BT remix! It gets moving in the later sections. I'm really digging it. Yum!
Cryptovariable/The IllumiNotMe submit this textured, atmospheric, and somewhat dark industrial-ish type track. He comments on his track, "The tragic absurdity of warfare in the modern age; enlightenment hijacked by pandemonium; chlorine gas calmly wafting by a French villa riddled by machine-gun fire." So there ya go.
Happy Friday! Time to kick-start the weekend. Sorry for the slow updates - I've been mega busy finalizing the new SGX album and prepping the new sgxmusic.com. Enough self-promotion; there will be plenty of that in the coming weeks as the album launches! Onto the track at hand.
This is a fun housey/dancey remix of the Super Mirage track Wasting Away. Get your disco ball!
Pyroshock, the man whose artist name rhymes with Bioshock (how about that Bioshock: Infinite trailer, all you gamers out there?!), comes at us with a tight jam. Nothing terribly complicated going on here, but a solid, broken beat, buzzing bassline (an SGX favorite), piano, and intricate synth line. Good, groovin', atmospheric stuff. This track is off Pyroshock's pay-what-you-like EP An Integral Part. Check it out.
Very cool! Syron has remixed the Hollidayrain track Deep Introspection (featured previously on Protagonist) into a really groovy, jazzy, and epic housey/trancy concoction. Love that Kenny G sax. It works.
Newcomer Sectra is apparently a 14 year old! This is a pretty solid atmospheric track that eventually busts out a heavy dubstep beat and bassline.
This is an interesting, kinda industrial, IDM-ish track that starts out a bit scatter-brained, but soon gets into a groove with a catchy synth line and progression, plus a big, heavy beat. Sounds a bit like some 16-bit videogame music updated by Justice. Check out this Cryptovariable track.
